Imagine you being in a gathering with your friends and they start avoiding you because your body is oozing out an unpleasant smell. Imagine that shame. You don't need a study doctor to tell you that they are avoiding you because of your body odour. You might have being wondering what cause body odour and how to eliminate them, then you are in the right place to know all that because I am going to shed more light on body odour ( causes and how to eliminate them). Before we proceed, let me tell you what body odour entails.

      Body odour is a perceived unpleasant smell which our bodies give off when bacteria that dwell on the body surface (skin) breaks down sweat into acid. Medically, it is also known as bromhidrosis, osmidrosis or ozochrotia. Body odour in human increases if not controlled by the time we reach puberty stage (14-16 years in females, 15-18 years in males).

      People who sweat too much are prone to have body odour. Naturally, sweats odourless to human but with the rapid increase of bacteria which break down the sweat into acid leads to the unpleasant smell.
      Body odour is most likely to occur in our armpits, pubic hair, feet, groin, and sometimes , the whole of the body.
      Remember, I said that bacteria break down sweat into acids, below are the acids;
  • Propanoic acid :This is commonly found in sweat. the name of the bacteria that breaks down sweat into into propanoic acid is "propionibacteria". It lives in the duct of the sebaceous glands of human.
  • Isovaleric acid : this is also known as 3-methylbutane acid. This is caused by the action of staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria.
     Having talked about the cause of body odour, let us alsosee how to eliminate body odour. Eliminating body odour is a great task which will take little time if you consistent with the procedures below;
  • Washing of the body: Washing of the body is one of the crucial steps to take. Since body odour is caused by bacteria then it is advisable to wash our body with an anti-bacterial soap rather than just rinsing the body. When you are washing the body, focus on the armpit and the feet which are two of the biggest body odour areas.
  • Rub sanitizer on your armpits: Use of sanitizers for body odour does not permanently eliminate body odour. You should only use sanitizer when you are in a tight spot to get rid of the smell as quickly as possible.
  • Rub lemon juice to the area: Lemon is a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent, for this reason, it can be used as fast relief from body odour.
  • Rub alum stone on the area of the odour: Alum is a mineral that has contents that can help to fight the bacteria  creating the body odour. To use the stone, rub it in a way that you would rub deodorants.
      Body odour can be prevented by the following ways;
  • Taking showers regularly.
  • Shave your armpit hair regularly.
  • Wash your clothes regularly.
  • Eat healthy food.
  • Keep your skin dry.
  • Eliminate stress.
  • Stay hydrated (Drinking lot of water)
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Consult a dermatologist if there is any problem.
